Le Monde recently published a pair of articles about the French online bookselling market.
Items of interest in the main article, “La vente de livres en ligne a explosé en 2006”:
- online sales constituted 4.5% of the bookselling market in 2006, and is growing 30-40% year to year
- sales at Amazon.fr and Fnac, the #1 and #2 in the market, are apparently growing like gangbusters; Alapage and Chapitre are #3 and #4 in the market
- independent online booksellers are working on creating their own online site (possibly like BookSense.com?)
The second article, “En remontant le cours d’Amazon jusqu’aux sources du e-commerce,” is a profile of Amazon.fr’s warehouse operation—similar to the dozens of profiles of Amazon.com warehouses that have appeared in the US press since the mid-1990s.Posted by Anirvan
