The power of the Internet never fails to amaze me. I was talking to a friend of mine who was in Seattle over the Christmas break, and she was telling me that while at a local bookstore she ran into an Australian lady purchasing a large stack of books. They got to talking and she explained to my friend that every time she heads overseas. She buys as many books as her baggage weight will allow because books in Australia are so costly.
After having the story recounted to me, I did a little bit of web snooping and discovered that this lady wasn't just miffed over a few pennies; the price of books has long been a well documented sore spot among Australian readers.
However there is still hope, even with the cost of international shipping you can usually find books cheaper on BookFinder.com.
I just looked up Jamie's Ministry of Food, the newest offering from Jamie Oliver. It's currently a top seller in Australia and you can find it on BookFinder.com for A$39.80, where at Angus & Robertson it's A$58.50, and at Dymocks it's A$71.50 postage paid.
It always pays to shop around.
