Brendan and the Biblio.com team have been doing a great job of growing their site, and telling their story to the press. I've been working in online used/rare book industry since 1997 and have seen a lot of small indie listings services come, and many of them go. It's fun to see a lean operation do well, and be able to speak out about it.
Biblio.com reports that their inventories place them right behind Abebooks and Alibris in terms of the largest comparable marketplaces, a factoid that's been getting pushed out aggressively to the press. A routine press release about a data licensing deal turned into a great story over at the Book Standard, generating repeatable quotes like "In the early days of the Internet, there were close to 20 competitors; today, there are far fewer, consolidation having produced a Big Three: Alibris.com, Abebooks.com and Biblio."
Just out this weekend is Biblio.com's fabulous profile in the local Asheville (North Carolina) Citizen-Times, which repeats the #3 statistic, and digs into the company's workings. Interesting reading, recommended.
